Within the Ararat Rural City municipality, tourism accounts for nearly 150 jobs and injects more than $8 million into the economy. This excludes the hugely popular tourism destination of Halls Gap. Each year, 74,000 domestic visitors stay in the Ararat region spending an average $195 per trip. This equates to 163,000 domestic visitor nights.
